VT-CVT

Continuous variable transmission is the last derivation of the hydrostatic modulation concept It allows to transform standard truck transmission to the CVT (Continious Varaible Transmission) that can bring benefit to standard and electrified trucks (Pat. Pending). One possible realization is shown below.  Standard CVT transmissions  has at least one combination of the variable displacement pump and hydrostatic motor, that is connected through the planetary gearset, to the rest of the transmission where mentioned planetary gearset is used as split power device. In this new approach hydrostatic modulator is used directly, as power split device, making all arrangement simpler.  This concept can be especially beneficial to the industrial trucks that are already equipped with variable displacement pumps, meaning that overall cost, comparing to standard CVT boxes, will be reduced as no specific variable displacement pump isn't needed in order to provide full benefit of the CVT transmission.

Further below, short explication of different modes of functioning can be found.

In short, when hydrostatic power input is negative, means that pump acts as the motor allowing power recirculation, from mechanical shaft back to the motor, so that there is no output speed.

When variable displacement pump is set to zero, hydrostatic modulator acts as coupling, meaning that speed of the input and output shafts, of the hydrostatic modulator, are practically the same..

When the output, of the variable displacement  pump is positive, hydrostatic modulator acts as motor connected in series with mechanical drive shaft, so that the speed of the system, is equal to mechanical power (speed) added with hydraulic power (speed)..
